Value Addition Against All Odds

Undaunted. Hopeful. Grateful

Meet Our Celebrant

Dr. Nkem Momah

Our Celebrant is a husband to Chioma and father to Nonso, Melie, Olanna and Chetty. He is a trained medical doctor, administrator/public servant and humanist to the core. Son to the late Gen. Sam and Chief (Mrs.) Ifeoma Momah, he is proud of an enviable and illustrious lineage associated with both humility and integrity. He is a proud sibling to Emeka, Tobe, Ada and Amaka (and their respective spouses).

Nkem, began his early life in Lagos where he attended King’s College Lagos. Whilst in KC, he was amongst the top 10 students who earned scholarships based on their academic prowess in year one. Fondly called Momse or Razor in school, he was also reputed with winning the Victor Ludorum Prize as the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the year in 1989. He will then proceed to study Medicine in the University of Jos. Upon graduation from medical school, he was involved in a ghastly car crash which will truncate his career for 18 months, an incident that will prove providential in his life later. He earned his post graduate qualifications in Public Health but will eventually consolidate his career as an eHealth specialist, a path that would see him driving policy and advocacy in this new and still evolving field of medicine in Nigeria.

Nkem is a strong believer in the Nigerian dream and has demonstrated this as Founder to various not-for-profit organizations and start up’s which in many ways perhaps also speaks to the Activist in him.  As hinted earlier, Nkem’s life is one of providence. He has survived 2 near death experiences and on both occasions, his response/decision was not to wallow in self-pity but to engage with the societal dysfunction in question. He is also a strong advocate for production as against a consumption mentality and so has also helped promote various start-up’s which hopefully will grow to scale and then offer employment to Nigeria’s teeming unemployed youth.

Nkem is a fun-loving, ebullient and determined person. He is passionate and result-oriented and so anyone with him on their team is sure to get things done on schedule. He is a strong advocate for impact or being the salt of the earth, a position implying a strong ability or capacity to offer value at all times.

About NMat50

NMat50 is an event acronym for Nkem Momah at 50. The chosen theme, Value Addition Against All Odds (Undaunted, Hopeful and Grateful) encapsulates the vision of this planned event. It speaks to a coming of age and fact that before 50, one has received virtue and now post 50 and almost obligatorily, one of a truth would now need to bequeath same. It also chronicles some of the hiccups encountered by the Celebrant enroute 50 with the fervent hope that observers will be encouraged by the lessons learnt as well as the eventual positive outcomes recorded thereof. It speaks to the strength of resilience, the value of excellence and the abiding power of love. In line with this, the activities of NMat50 have been carefully crafted to help reinforce these ethos’.

As was earlier highlighted in the Celebrants biography page, his response to life’s many tribulations and societal dysfunctions have often been a positive reaction in the form of registered not-for-profit organizations. Over the years, these organizations have developed a life of their own and would therefore in this case serve as the platforms wherein which the four (4) activities for NMat50 will be anchored, details of which are as follows:

Activity 1 – Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme

This will involve developing criteria for nominees, shortlisting and selecting eventual winners who will then be mentored in an incubation hub being promoted by the Celebrant. Idea here being to take the ideas to scale and ultimately help provide employment for Nigerians.

Anchoring Platform: Cedar Hub

Activity 2 – Public Lecture and Essay Competition

Lecture and essay competition will be organized by a youth mentorship platform founded by the Celebrant. Selected topics will be in sync with overriding theme of the event. Essay entries will be received from school students in the FCT and the winners will be announced during the Private Lecture.

Anchoring Platform: SALT (Strategic Assembly for Leadership Thrust)

Activity 3 – Medical Outreach

A road safety biased NGO founded by the Celebrant will partner with the relevant stakeholders to provide free medical/eye checks and prescription glasses to deserving drivers in an Abuja motor park.

Anchoring Platform: Lifeline Care

Activity 4 – Dinner and Charity Fundraiser

This will be hosted by same above-mentioned road safety biased NGO founded by the Celebrant. Funds raised herein will be ploughed towards the NGO’s life-saving work.

Anchoring Platform: Lifeline Care

The Celebrant recognizes the iconic nature and goodwill associated with this milestone and so is determined to leverage same for Charity.
